Origin and founder of Baptist denominations in Christianity.

Baptist Church

Baptist religion comprises the largest number of Christian protestants dominions. The members of this religious belief are similar to those of other protestants but for them, they stress that baptism is through immersion into the water rather than pouring and spring of water. Baptists believe that only believers should be baptized. Baptists comprise of various churches that follow a congregational government of the church. Most Baptist put emphasize on none existence of either a human founder nor human authority or human creed. My dad is a pastor of a baptist church and the owner of a plumbing company Plumber Pompano Beach.

Baptist emanated from the English separatism which resulted from Dutch Mennonites or Anabaptist. The third perspective is that Baptist church holds that this church has somehow been in existence since Christ.

According to history, the origin of Baptist dominion is recorded to be in America in the 17th century. This church came into existence over contradicting beliefs by officials that pertained to how the church functions should be carried. This happened in the Massachusetts Bay colony, where Roger William founded the first Baptist Church in 1938 at Rhodes Island. Not long,  another founder John Clarke, who was an Englishman founded another Baptist church on the same Island. The two were later given a chatter by King Charles that gave them the freedom to carry one with their religion work in the Island.

Other different opinions illustrate the origin of the Baptist Church. The first opinion by Bruce Gourley who was the Baptist History and Heritage Society is that Baptist extended from the separatist movement in England that led to the separation of the protestant Christians from the church of England between the 16th-18th century.

According to most people, this view gained popularity and acceptance. These movements by the separatists were recognized as the first Baptist congregation.

These movements led to the existence of Two groups of Baptists;

General Baptists.

The presence of persecution in the home country, they were not allowed to get outside England Church. Thomas Helwys and John Smyth congregation sort refuge in Amsterdam in 1606 and formed their church there which is still believed to be among the earliest English Baptist Churches. This group did not accept that other churches adhere to teachings from the Bible on Baptism. This was followed by Smyth baptizing himself then baptized members of the congregations who were already adults.

Helwys traveled back to England in 1612, just after establishing a congregation in the Netherlands and went to start another Baptist church near London. In 1624, there existed many congregations of Baptists in England came together to form an Association of Baptists churches.

Since that time, there has been a continuous growth of the General Baptists Churches, with a few challenges’ belief persecution by other people. This church finally expanded across the Atlantic. Presently, several churches would match the description of the general Baptist.

Particular Baptists.

This group came into existence at almost the same time as General Baptists. This church was known as particular because they had a different suggestion on atonements. They believed Christ died on the cross for particular people, while for the general Baptists, atonement meant that those who were willing to receive salvation, it was made possible to them.

A Survey was carried in America in 1973 that resulted in an estimate of about 1032 American Baptist churches. Among them, 956 were Particular Baptist churches. That means that this congregation gained popularity in America quickly. Later, this group championed the constitution amendment that shielded the liberty of the religion. Today, there have been so many reforms on these Baptists churches that have seen it expand worldwide

Conclusion.

From the illustrations above, people have diverse views on the origin of the Baptist dominion. Even though the American Baptists refused to have originated from the English Baptists, The English Welsh believers are satisfied that they received their creed from Jesus Apostles. The Germans believe to have acquired their creed in the same manner as the Welsh Baptists.

The Dutch hold that, reformation came in much later and that they were elder than the hierarchy that was too corrupt and needed to be reformed. In a nutshell, Baptism ideally started in England during the times of reform. The main intention of the Baptist church has been to spread the faith of the early churches in the bible that based their teachings on the New Testament.

How to get baptized

Have you been wondering how you can follow through with a baptism? There are a few things you have to do before you can be baptized. The most important thing to do is repent to Jesus and our Lord for your sins and welcome Him into your heart. He will forgive you if you repent and truly mean it. He will save your soul and make you whole again in His name. You must truly believe in our Lord and believe that He is our Savior. You will know you have been saved as it is a feeling of wholeness and overwhelmingly incredible.

After He saves you, you need to confront your pastor and tell them how you have been saved and became whole with the Lord. If you don’t have a pastor or belong to a church, you will need to find one that conforms to the beliefs of the Lord and His Bible.

Once you confront the pastor, he/she will then ask if you would like to join the church and/or will ask if you would like to be baptized. There are many different ways of baptism: one is aspersion. Aspersion is when the pastor reads from his/her Bible and will sprinkle water over your head. This isn’t as common, but you will still be whole with the Lord and your sins will still be washed away.

There is also immersion. Immersion is the most common one that people decide to do. Many times you will be taken to a body of water and go in it about waist deep with your pastor. It is always best to wear older clothing of your choice and make sure you bring a towel. Your pastor will speak about the Lord and how your soul was saved by Him like he would if you were baptized with aspersion.

After he speaks, he will place a washcloth or a form of old fabric over your face and dunk you underwater as he announces that you are baptized in the name of the Lord. Some pastors prefer just getting a small bucket/bowl and pouring it over your head. Once you’re baptized in the blood of the Lord, you are officially washed free of your sins. Many pastors will baptize you in the name of the Lord, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes after baptism, pastors will ask if you would like to join their church and become a member if you haven’t done so already.
